Earlier this month, Governor Abbott announced that Texas will opt out of additional federal pandemic-related unemployment compensation, namely the $300 weekly supplement from the Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program.

The Governor’s announcement comes after THLA’s work toward this result, including our recently joining a coalition of business groups urging him in a letter to take action.  The policy change will take effect beginning June 26, 2021 in order to comply with federal law.

THLA is keenly aware that lodging operators across Texas are struggling to fill open positions at your properties. As more Americans become vaccinated and travel activity continues its upward trend into the summer months, we hope this policy shift will encourage applicants to apply for open positions at your properties.
