The Texas Hotel and Lodging Association (THLA) has once again set the stage for the future of hospitality with its highly anticipated Hotel Summer Camps. Spanning across three vibrant cities—Houston, Fort Worth, and Bryan College Station—previous year’s camps have left an indelible mark on the minds of aspiring hoteliers and industry enthusiasts alike.
Throughout the month of June, over 150 high school students will have the unique opportunity to delve deep into the intricacies of the hotel industry. Hosted at esteemed properties such as the Hilton University of Houston, AC Hotel by Marriott in Fort Worth, and the A&M Hotel and Conference Center in Bryan College Station, participants will be treated to immersive experiences that showcase both the front-of-the-house and back-of-the-house operations.
Sessions & Highlights
In sessions led by seasoned industry leaders and esteemed general managers, students receive invaluable insights into the multifaceted world of hospitality. From understanding guest experiences to gaining hands-on experience in various departments, the camps provided a holistic view of the industry’s inner workings.
Complementing the experiential learning are a series of engaging workshops on topics crucial for professional development. Business Dinner Etiquette, SMART Goal Setting, Digital Self-Presentation, and Job Search Strategies are just a few of the sessions offered, empowering participants with the skills necessary for success in the modern workplace.
One of the highlights of the camps is the opportunity for students to earn a Texas Friendly Hospitality Ambassador Customer Service Certification. This certification not only recognizes their dedication to excellence in customer service but also serves as a valuable asset as they pursue their careers in hospitality.
Culminating each camp is a College and Career Awareness Fair—an event brimming with opportunities. Students have the chance to network with representatives from major hotel brands, explore college programs, and even secure summer employment, putting their newfound skills and knowledge into action.
