THLA Testifies Before Senate Committee on Local Hotel Occupancy Taxes

On Tuesday, THLA was invited to testify before the Texas Senate Committee on Economic Development on local hotel occupancy tax transparency, collections, administration, and project financing zones.
Over several hours of testimony, THLA answered senators’ questions on the use of local hotel occupancy tax revenue, tax collections from short-term rental bookings, and project financing zones.

THLA emphasized the importance of ensuring that hotel occupancy tax revenue remains dedicated to promoting and enhancing tourism and the hotel and convention industry.
THLA also highlighted the strength of Texas’s convention industry and the need to continue developing world-class meeting and event facilities.
The issues discussed at Tuesday’s hearing are likely to come before the Texas Legislature during the upcoming regular session, which begins January 12, 2027.
