Round Rock has made a name for itself as the Sports Capital of Texas, playing host to the biggest youth and recreational sports tournaments for athletes from all over the world.

Toasted popcorn wafting through the bleachers of Dell Diamond stadium, the brisk ping of a titanium driver striking against plastic-coated golf balls, oiled leather soccer cleats on dewy, freshly-manicured fields; these are among the sights, sounds and smells you will surely encounter in Round Rock.

WELL-ROUNDED

The city of Round Rock has carved out a unique reputation for itself in Central Texas. A charming community along with family-friendly entertainment, convenient amenities, and a thriving economy have placed Round Rock on numerous National Top 20 Lists: Number 17  Best City in America, Number 13 Places to Raise a Family, and Number 5 Safest Cities. Consider its central location (just 15 miles north of Austin, less than 2.5 hours from three of the 10 biggest cities in the United States) and it becomes clear why Round Rock is a veritable powerhouse.

OUR ROCKIN’ HISTORY
One of the nation’s fastest-growing cities, what started as a small Texas cattle town has exploded into a huge tourist destination, drawing visitors from all over to attend the sports tournaments, music concerts, and other festivals located in Round Rock.

The exciting history of Round Rock can be traced back to beautiful Brushy Creek; there, in the middle of the creek, lies a flat, “round rock.” In 1851, this important rock marked a low-water crossing point for wagons, horses, and cattle.

A small village soon formed on the surrounding banks of the creek, and in 1854, a town name was declared: Round Rock, Texas. The rest, as they say, is history.

A stroll through Chisholm Trail Crossing Park provides visitors with an interactive and relaxing tale of Round Rock’s historic role, with commemorative plaques, sculptures, and a view of the actual “round rock.” For more town history, Round Rock’s Downtown Historic District features original architecture from the 1800s and a look into life during the city’s modest beginnings.
