THLA Hosts Dallas ISD Interns to Promote Careers in the Texas Lodging Industry

Dallas ISD & WBLA

This summer, the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association (THLA) proudly hosted six high school interns from Dallas ISD through a partnership with the Work-Based Learning Alliance (WBLA) and Dallas ISD Postsecondary Partnerships & Programs.

The internship program provided students with a unique opportunity to explore the lodging industry while gaining valuable professional experience. Through the partnership, the Work-Based Learning Alliance funded student compensation, allowing participants to focus on developing meaningful workplace skills while contributing to an important industry initiative.

THLA’s Education Outreach

Under the leadership and mentorship of THLA Education Outreach & Foundation Director Debbie Wieland, the interns spent several weeks researching the Texas lodging industry and the many career pathways available within hotels.

Their research served as the foundation for creating engaging social media content to introduce students, parents, and educators to the diverse career opportunities across the lodging industry.

Throughout the internship, students strengthened critical workplace skills including research, project management, collaboration, communication, content creation, and professional presentation—while gaining firsthand exposure to one of Texas’ largest and most dynamic industries.

THLA is grateful for the partnership with the Work-Based Learning Alliance and Dallas ISD Postsecondary Partnerships & Programs, whose shared commitment to expanding meaningful work-based learning experiences is helping prepare the next generation of hospitality professionals.
