Sunday, May 3rd through Saturday, May 9th – Travel and Tourism Week in Texas
Travel and Tourism Week in Texas
In recognition of the travel and tourism industry’s vital contribution to the state’s economy, Governor Greg Abbott has proclaimed May 3 – 9, 2026 as Travel and Tourism Week in Texas, aligning with the U.S. Travel Association’s National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW). This annual celebration highlights the travel industry’s essential role in driving economic growth, creating jobs, and strengthening the nation’s global competitiveness.
Postmarked: Essential
In 2026, the theme “Postmarked: Essential” highlights a simple truth: travel is fundamental to America’s economy, workforce and way of life. Every trip taken, every visitor welcomed and every experience created leaves a lasting mark on communities across the country. Travel drives opportunity, fuels growth and keeps America connected.
In Texas, that impact is undeniable. The travel and tourism industry remains a critical driver of the state’s economy by powering businesses, supporting jobs and strengthening communities from rural towns to major cities.
Texas continues to see strong travel demand, with 52 million travelers visiting from across the country and around the world in 2025, alongside 69 million Texans exploring destinations within the state on overnight trips.
The industry’s impact is far-reaching. Travel and tourism in Texas generates $201.8 billion in total economic impact, supports 1.3 million jobs and produces $80.8 billion in earnings for Texans.
Additionally, travel-generated revenue contributes $9.2 billion in state and local taxes, funding essential public services and supporting jobs for teachers, first responders and infrastructure across communities statewide.
As the industry continues to grow, travel remains essential, not only to Texas’ economy, but to the people, places and connections that define the state.
